On 14th November 2024, the University of Geneva (UNIGE) hosted Diabetes Days 2024, an event dedicated to raising awareness about diabetes and highlighting advancements in research. Organised by the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Cell Physiology and Metabolism, the event welcomed over 200 attendees.
As part of the event, the VANGUARD team delivered a tailored session for five middle and high school classes, totalling around 100 students. The session introduced key aspects of diabetes research, including the project’s work on developing a bioartificial pancreas to improve treatment for type 1 diabetes. Students had the chance to engage with researchers, ask questions, and gain insight into how scientific progress impacts health and well-being.
Feedback from attendees emphasised the value of the presentations and the opportunity to interact directly with researchers. The session was a valuable addition to an event that aimed to make complex scientific topics accessible and engaging for all audiences.
UNIGE and the VANGUARD project team thank all participants for contributing to a successful event. For more information about the VANGUARD project or future outreach activities, visit the University of Geneva’s website.
